Soil and Water Conservation;Water-saving Agriculture;Northwest A&F University;Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Resilience

Prof. Wu Pute is the President of Northwest A&F University, and the Chief Director of Chinese National Engineering Laboratory for Efficient Water Use for Crops in Arid Regions. His main research interests include drought assessment, efficient utilization of rainwater resource, agricultural water-saving and irrigation hydraulics. In the past four decades, he has led a team carrying on related research for agricultural water scarcity mitigation, in particular for efficient water use for crops, irrigation technology and equipment and agricultural water management. He has earned an excellent international reputation through his contributions to the fields of agricultural water saving and sustainable utilization of water resources.

Prof. Wu has outstanding scientific achievements and has made great contribution to agricultural water security in China. He won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award twice and the first prize of Ministerial and Provincial-Level Science and Technology Awards six times. He is the author of about 200 academic papers (150 ISI papers), including articles in Water Resources Research, Water Research, Journal of Hydrology, Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, Chinese Science Bulletin, and more than 20 books. Prof. Wu won the National May 1st Labor Medal and the outstanding contribution award of agricultural engineering in China's reform and opening up, and was selected into National High-Level Talents Special Support Plan and the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project.
