After the Waking of Insects, the vast land of Central Plainsin China is full of vitality. In Tanghe County of Henan Province, which is known as the "granary of the Central Plains", the farmers in Zhenqun Family Farm in Yuantan Town are quite busy.

"If we miss this season, we’ll miss the whole year. Therefore, the most important thing now is to controlthe plant diseases and insectpests, and ensure grain harvest soundly. " Qiao Zhenqun, a farmer, said over cleaning and repairing the plant protection UAV, "It's the “trump card” of rural revitalization to ensure food security!"

"Fortunately, they support me." Qiao Zhenqun pointed at two fashionable girls who came in with mud on their feet, "They are my daughters, Qiao Xin and Qiao Miao. They just went to the field to check how to control and prevent theplant diseases and insectpest. After graduation, they don't want to work in other places, so they growgrain cropsand engage in e-commerce with me. Our life is quite good."

"Wewant to see with our own eyes that the countryside become a desirable place, the agriculture become a promising industry, and farming become an enviable profession!" These two girls completed the "intergenerational transmission" of grainproductionand become a new generation of new farmers.

In terms of the development of agriculture, rural areas and farmers, Tanghe County is the epitome of the whole China. As an important link for the effective poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, Tanghe County shows a long scroll of rural revitalization.

Two pieces of land separated by one road show two different colors.

This fantastic scene appeared in the high standard demonstrationgrainfield in Wangying Village, Zhangdian Township in Tanghe County. In the same area, there is black soil on one side and yellow clay soil on the other. The difference in soil color is significantas the green wheat seedlings do not cover the field well.

“The black is theimproved landwhile the yellow is the land that should be furtherimproved.” According to Zhang Yunting, Chairman of Cunyanpeng Cooperative, “I often purchase livestock manure from farms. Through deep ploughing and meticulous farming, I can transform infertile land with thin soil into fertile land."

Farmers in Tanghe County are dedicated to farming voluntarily. The strategy of “Storing Grain in Land and Technology” goes deep in the hearts of farmers.Food security is the political responsibility and the only choice for the farmers of Tanghe County, a super grain producing county in China. Therefore, Tanghe's grain production has always been increasing.

According to the 16th plenary session of the 12th Party committee in Tanghe County, 1.17 millionmu of high standard grain fields(1mu= 0.067ha.)have been built, the annual grain output keeps stable at more than 2.7 billionjin (1jin = 0.5 kg), and the grain reserves are 2 billionjin. Tanghe County has become a key county for the agricultural product quality safety in Henan Province, and has been approved as a provincial modern agricultural industrial park and a national standard green raw material production base. It deserves the name of "Granary of Central Plains".

Tanghe County maintains the stable grainproduction and growth and the area of cultivated land keeps stable. In Tanghe County, in the face of the urbanization, the "red line ofcultivated land" has not been broken. Instead, the cultivated land has been expanded from 2.45 million to 2.6 millionmu in justpastthree years. The county implements the strictest "farmland protection regulation", and all the land use shall not damage or affect grain production. It continues to implement the strictest farmland protection system and the strictest land saving system. By cracking down on indiscriminate occupation of farmland, destruction of farmland and illegal land occupation, it constantly increases the reclamation on the abandoned land, theland suitable for farming andthe land inkiln sites, and strives to control hollow villages. An additional 150,000mu of cultivated land has been increased, which realizes the balance between the occupation andthecompensation for cultivated land and steadily expands grain fields.

Statistics from thesector of agricultural andruralaffairsof Tanghe County show that since 2018, the planting area of grain crops in the county has exceeded 3.4 millionmu, and the annual total grain output has exceeded 2.7 billionjin, ranking the top 50 in China, the second in Henan Province, and the first in Nanyang City.

The sector of agricultural andruralaffairsof Tanghe County is continuously adjusting the strategy for grain development. “In the past year, we planted 1,000mu, but now we only plant 400mu." Why? Jiao Qiang, Director General of Xianghong Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in TongheCounty, gave the answer, "It’s more important to plant more quality grains. For example, planting the organic wheat will be a good choice. Superficially, the planting area of wheat reduces, the yield is lower, but the qualityof organic wheatis higher, itsmarket is bigger, anditsbenefit is improved. This is the right way."

Over the past year, Tanghe County has completed the certification of organic wheat base with an area of 200,000mu. A supply agreement has been signed for a total of 139,000mu of organic wheat, making Tanghe Town a raw material supply base for domestic well-known wine-making enterprises. The order priceisRMB0.1 yuan higher than the market price.

Technological development and pest control are key to the grain industry in Tanghe County. On the one hand, the technological promotion service system has been established. Agricultural service centers have been set up in villages and townships. There are 11 regional stations for agricultural technology extension, 86 service stations for non-governmental technology and material integration, and 24 stations for agricultural situation prediction, whichmakethe "last kilometer" of agricultural technology extension opern up. The local government has dispatched 182 scientific and technological personnel to disseminate technology in the fields. The new technology and new varieties have accessible to over 98% offarmerhouseholds. On the other hand, the improved seed program has been launched. New variety introduction andtrialdemonstration base, improved variety processing center and improved variety breeding base have been established with more than 30 new varieties annually, 30 million kg of improved varieties, and 100% coverage rate of improved varieties.

The spring in Tanghe County is full of the hope of bumper harvest!
