WFP has been supporting local agri-food value chains for enhanced food security, nutrition, and livelihoods: WFP will continue to focus its interventions to equip and empower target groups to (i) increase food production and diversify production to include nutrient-rich foods such as leafy vegetables, roots and tubers, (ii) reduce post-harvest losses, (iii) engage in profitable food value-added ventures through adoption of new food transformation techniques for increased incomes, and (iv) innovative pro-smallholder market building strategies

Increasing attention is being paid for post-harvest loss reduction (PHL) interventions as an entry point for reducing hunger and strengthening food systems. In particular, PHL has recently been identified by the Global Operational Task Force as one of the major entry points for WFP's programmatic response to the Global Food Crisis.
