Ms. Litia Naitanui, 56 years old, Rewa Branch President, Disabled People's Organization (DPO), has mobility issues but she has not let her physical condition get in the way.
She realized that the mushroom cultivation is a good business for a disabled person like her. It doesn’t take too much effort. The mushrooms can be eaten by the family or sold for cash income. Now, she not only grows her own mushrooms, but also teaches her disabled friends to grow. She helps to distribute the substrate packs and production materials provided by the China Aid Juncao technology project to other members in her organization. The harvested mushroom is sold to supermarkets, restaurants and hotels at a price of 25 Fijian Dollars (about US$ 11.9) per kilogram. Hotels such as GPH and Holiday Inn in Suva are their regular customers. Juncao Technology has opened up self-employment ways that are most suitable for their physical conditions, increasing their income and improving their livelihoods.
