Alusio Tawakevoudua lives in Muanaira village of Vutia Rewa. The 70-year-old is a “Pioneer Juncao Mushroom Farmer” and at his first time he harvested 143 kilograms of fresh mushrooms and earned nearly 1,500 FJD (about US$ 713). It is difficult for him to find a job at his age. The mushroom cultivation doesn’t need a lot of labor and the cultivation cycle was short. Unlike cassava, which requires a long production cycle and a large amount of labor input, Juncao mushroom cultivation is very suitable for elderly people. Juncao technology has greatly improved his life, which enables him to eat frequently nutritious and tasty mushroom for his meals and sell the rest to raise more cash.
