Mr. Maika Saurara lives in Muanaira Village, Vutia Rewa. Being physically challenged, the 23-year-old used to scrape out a living by growing some cassava and vegetables and fishing. After attending the 18th Juncao technology training in the China Aid Juncao Technology Demonstration Center, he was offered 300 oyster mushroom packs, plastic film and PVC pipe. The Chinese experts helped him everything all along the plantation of the packs, building the arched tunnel. After about two months of study and careful work in cultivation, his family harvested 115 kilograms of fresh mushrooms, besides leaving some mushroom for home consumption, he sold the rest and earned more than 1,400 FJD (about US$ 630). He was very pleased with the first-ever large amount income and excitedly told the people that “the mushroom cultivation is a good job for me”.
