Achievements of Poverty Reduction Consolidated in 2022

Innovative Poverty Alleviation Initiative;Poverty Reduction;Rural Revitalization;

China's achievements in poverty reduction were further consolidated in 2022 as more rural residents formerly living in poverty found jobs and increased their income.

In 2022, we synergized our efforts to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty alleviation and promote rural revitalization. Through concerted efforts, the foundation for poverty reduction has become more solid, and the achievements in poverty reduction have been further consolidated and have more lasting impact. They were shown in the following three aspects:

First, there was no large-scale backsliding into poverty. Our monitoring and assistance mechanism to prevent people from slipping back into poverty has worked well. The mechanism can identify those who are at risk of falling back into poverty within 15 days so that we can intervene and provide assistance to them. We also guaranteed compulsory education, basic medical services, and safe housing for impoverished rural residents, and make sure that they are provided with safe drinking water and basic necessities.

Second, the job market remained stable. In 2022, the number of migrant workers who have been lifted out of poverty reached 32.78 million, up by 1.33 million from 2021 levels, and 2.59 million more than the annual target.

Third, the areas and people stepping out of poverty saw faster income growth. In 2022, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in previously improverished areas reached 15,111 yuan. The number grew 7.5% year on year, 1.2 percentage points higher than the national average for farmers. The net income of rural residents lifted out of poverty reached 14,342 yuan, up by 14.3% year on year, and 8 percentage points faster than the per capita disposable income growth of all rural residents in China.
