International Forum on Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation -2nd Event: 2023 Annual Report on Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Background

Young people are the most energetic and creative group in society. Their active participation is crucial for mankind to achieve SDGs.

As Rural Vitalisation Strategyhas been steadily implemented in China, more and morerural young people return to their hometown to start their own businesses, and many of their urban counterparts also choose to commit themselves to rural areas. They bring back new technologies and techniques, inspire new rural occupations, integrate development of different industries and the improvement in living environment of rural residents. With practical actions, they prove that the youth are the pioneering force of rural vitalisation. The innovation and entrepreneurship of Chinese youth in rural areas can bring experience and inspiration to the development and transformation of rural areas around the world.

Thematic Study on Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation is jointly initiated by China Internet Information Center (CIIC), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representation in China, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) China Office, World Food Programme (WFP) China Office and the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP-CSAM).

Key Outputs

1. Release the Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation: 2023 Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship thematicreport and series videos;

2. Recommend and demonstrate China’ s experience, discuss potential technology transfer path and SSC knowledge sharing.

Event Arrangement

1. Event Format

The half-day event is scheduled from 9:00-11:20 Beijing time (GMT+8) on November 6 2023.

The event will be held in hybrid format with on-site (Venue: Large Conference Room, UN Compound, Beijing) and online participation (Zoom Meeting ID: 859 8369 6842, Passcode: 1106 ).

2. Targeted Audience  

Participants such as policy and decision makers in agriculture departments, young rural entrepreneurs, relevant technical staff, and leading smallholder farmers in developing countriesare welcome to join the Forum.

3. Language

Chinese/ English simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
