The Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices (Sixth Call)

Poverty Reduction; Rural Development; Case Study; China

I. Background

The Global Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth Portal (GPIG) (http://south.iprcc.org.cn) is a knowledge platform for sharing international poverty reduction information and disseminating China’s experiences in poverty reduction and development. The GPIG aims to provide policymakers, research institutions, and other stakeholders that engage in poverty reduction and inclusive growth worldwide with up-to-date research, country profiles, latest poverty reduction news, expert opinions, research trends, and poverty reduction information. The GPIG was initiated by the World Bank (WB), supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and jointly operated by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and the China Development Gateway under the China Internet Information Center (CIIC).

In May 2017, the Global Poverty Reduction Online Knowledge Sharing Database (http://case.iprcc.org.cn/) of the GPIG was launched. It enables the sharing of information about successful poverty reduction models and innovative practices from both China and the international community to audiences across the world, through presenting poverty reduction cases, research, policies, and laws.

In 2018, to further disseminate successful poverty reduction experiences from China and the international community and to harness collective wisdom to create a world free of poverty, IPRCC, CIIC, WB and ADB, as well as three UN agencies based in Rome, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), jointly launched the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices initiative. Five rounds of campaign have concluded, with over 3,700 case studies collected from 78 countries and regions, and 529 selected as excellent case studies. The sixth round of the campaign has just kicked off.

II. Objectives
