Jointly initiated by China Internet Information Center (CIIC), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO) Representation in China, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) China Office, World Food Programme (WFP) China Office and the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP-CSAM), the Thematic Study and Knowledge Sharing on Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation aims to sort out and summarize the development trends of empowering rural areas through science and technology, and select best practices, especially innovative ones that are sustainable and replicable. Through field visits, theme reports, media coverage, forums, seminars, and sharing of best practices, this initiative aims to share China’s solutions in utilizing science and technology to empower rural areas and promote knowledge and experience sharing between developing countries.
The Thematic Study is divided into 5 chapters. Chapter 1 briefly introduces the relevant policies on the Digital Countryside in China over the past few years. Chapter 2 gives specific science and technology innovations, along with case studies, focusing on agricultural production in two areas: the development and application of digital agricultural mechanization, and the status quo of precision agriculture technologies. Chapter 3 illustrates how digital technology empowers agricultural value chain development in China. Chapter 4 demonstrates how digital finance boosts rural vitalization. Finally, Chapter 5 summarises how digital technology empowers rural development- China’s experience and the inspiration for other developing countries.
